Nokalakevi is an ancient town in the Senaki region in Western Georgia. Some scientists believe that the city was founded in the XIII century BC and was the largest center of Colchis, and the Argonauts sailed here in search of the Golden Fleece. Later, under the name of Archaeopolis, the city became the capital of the Egrisi (Greek) state.
Powerful fortifications and the remnants of ancient buildings (houses, churches, and baths) are preserved here. At the Nokalakevi Archaeological Museum tourists can buy tickets and see the map of ancient Archaeopolis. An indoor staircase leading down to the Tekhuri river is cut out in the rock right inside the mountain.
